Chief Hudson


Chief Hudson began his service on the MCECD Board of Managers in March 2012 as an appointee of the Fire Marshall and the Montgomery County Fire Chief’s Association. 

 

In March of 2009, Chief Hudson was appointed Fire Chief by the Emergency Services District #8 Board which operates the South Montgomery County Fire Department.   He has been an active member of the public safety community for over 40 years, with experience in fire service, emergency medical services, law enforcement, emergency management, and emergency service training.

 

Chief Hudson moved to Texas from Michigan where he began his career in 1973. Before moving to Texas, Chief Hudson served as Administrative Deputy Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director for the City of Portage, Michigan. He also served as the department’s Deputy Chief of Operations during his first six years with Portage. Preceding his positions in Portage, he held several chief officer positions including Deputy Director of Fire Services for the City of Center Line, Michigan Department of Public Safety; and as Career Fire Chief for the Delhi Charter Township, Michigan Fire Department. He also served as a Deputy Sheriff-Paramedic for the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan, and has held Emergency Management Coordinator roles for Chippewa County, Ingham County, and the City of Center Line, Michigan.


He received a Master of Science in Executive Fire Leadership Degree from Grand Canyon University in 2008.  He holds a Bachelors of Applied Science degree in Public Safety from Siena Height’s University; three Associate degrees, Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services, and Fire Science from Lansing Community College. He completed the Professional Development Program in Emergency Management at the Emergency Management Institute at the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, Maryland, is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program (EFO), and holds the Chief Fire Officer Designation (CFO) from the Center for Public Safety Excellence.


Chief Hudson served 18 years as a part-time faculty member for the regional fire training academy as well as instructing within the EMS program and the Mid-Michigan Police Academy at Lansing Community College in Lansing, Michigan. He has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Nevada-Reno Fire Science Academy and adjunct faculty for the Michigan State University School of Criminal Justice instructing classes throughout the U.S. as part of a United State Department of Homeland Security contract.


As a Texas certified Master Firefighter, Chief Hudson also holds certifications in other areas such as; Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor II, and holds Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, as well as the Head of Department- Suppression certification.  He is also a NFPA Fire Inspector I and has been certified in the State of Michigan as a Fire Fighter II, Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor, Advanced Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, NFPA Fire Inspector I, EMS Instructor-Coordinator, and Hazardous Materials Technician. Chief Hudson is certified to instruct numerous courses, such as Hazardous Materials, CBRNE, Terrorism, and Incident Management programs.
